AIRBORN

BIO

AIRBORN formed in Torino, Italy, in 1995 and they are renowned for their direct and uncompromised German-style Power Metal. Right after their first demo “Born to Fly” got great fancy from the critics and led them to be elected “Hottest new band of the month” by Metal Hammer Israel, their career started.

In 2002, debut album “Against the World” was released, as a collaboration with the world-famous producer Piet Sielck (Iron Savior, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian). “D-Generation” followed in 2004.

2005 and 2006 led to some line-up changes and in 2009 the band finally released “Legend of Madog”. Its success was cemented thanks to a lucky series of shows and festivals, including support for Heavy Metal legends such as Cannibal Corpse and Korpiklaani. In December 2012, AIRBORN celebrated the 10th anniversary of their debut by publishing “Demos & varities Collection – Ten Years of Airborn”. On the following tour, the band had the chance to play one gig with Germany’s Freedom Call. In 2014, fourth studio album “Dark Future Rising” was released, in conjunction with the first series of shows with Piet Sielck’s Iron Savior. At the end of the year the band was opening act for the Italian show of Fates Warning’s Darkness in a Different Light tour.

2015 marked the 20th anniversary of the foundation and the beginning of the Twenty Years tour, on occasion of which the band played a few other shows with Iron Savior in Italy and Germany. One the most important events in Europe was the RUDE Festival in Germany together with Sepultura & Tankard, while they played their first show outside European borders at Melodic Alliance Festival in Tel Aviv joining Elvenking and Desert. The recording of the show they played in their hometown led to the release of “Dinosaurs – Twenty Years Live”, AIRBORN’s first official live album and DVD out in 2016.

In 2017, the band came up with the ambitious aim of releasing a trilogy of albums, and in 2018 the first chapter “Lizard Secrets: Part 1 – Land of the Living” was released. Being their fifth full-length, it ushered in the latest record deals with Fighter Records (a division of Xtreem Music) and Japanese label Spiritual Beast. Thus, the band albums approached the Land of the Rising Sun for the first time.

Months of hard work followed. By then AIRBORN were setting up their Born to Fly Festival, an event which was conceived and created by the band itself back in 2017 in order to promote and spread Italian Power Metal within national borders. Special guest for the first BTFF was opera singer Mario Linhares, frontman to Brazil’s Dark Avenger, who suddenly passed away a few weeks after that gig and to the memory of whom the band dedicated the second edition in 2018.

In 2019, AIRBORN took part in many live events – among which was XI Taunus Metal Festival in Germany – and were featured as guest artists in the first-ever official tribute album to power metal legends Gamma Ray, titled Cosmic Rayz and released via Burning Sun Records, with their cover version of the classic hit “Gardens of the Sinner”. The year ended with the third edition of the BTFF and with the release of “Cosmic Rebels”, AIRBORN’s sci-fi themed videogame created by frontman Alessio Perardi. The game OST, featuring songs from “Lizard Secrets Part 1” as well as classic AIRBORN tunes which the band re-arranged an recorded again, was available in digital download as well.

In 2020, Airborn celebrated their 25th anniversary, starting in January with a special show for Ballroom Hamburg Birthday Bash with Iron Savior and Paragon. The outcome of the Hamburg event was quite remarkable, on one hand having such an echo within the German metal scene while on the other letting the band in through the very heart of Hamburg’s metal community. It all seemed the beginning of a highly successful year, but the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic got plans and purposes into narrow perspectives. So the band re-scheduled aims and activities and got back to the studio, where recordings and production for the second chapter of the Lizard Secrets trilogy ended by mid-October. Europe/World release for “Lizard Secrets: Part 2 – Age of Wonder” is now planned for December 10th again through Fighter Records.

No events for now, please check again later.
